Understanding Shame Using Self-Compassion

Today we’re going to focus on something that quietly shapes how this entire process unfolds.

How you treat yourself.

Up until now, you’ve been learning how to face what you’ve been avoiding and how to respond differently when fear shows up. But change doesn’t happen all at once—and it doesn’t happen perfectly.

Your brain learns through experience. Through repetition. Through moments where you stay present, even when it’s uncomfortable.

And during that process, something else often shows up too—self-criticism, doubt, and shame.

For many people, this becomes the part that keeps them stuck.

On Day 6, we’re introducing an important shift: learning how to relate to yourself differently while you do this work.

This isn’t about letting yourself off the hook or avoiding hard things. It’s about creating the kind of internal support that allows you to stay in the process long enough for real change to happen.

Inside today’s lesson you’ll find:

  • One short educational video
  • A fillable workbook PDF
  • Exercises to help you recognize shame and practice self-compassion

Start with the video, then move through the workbook at your own pace. Today is about noticing how you speak to yourself—and beginning to shift that relationship.

You don’t have to do this perfectly. Showing up is enough.

Remember: this challenge is a psycho-educational program designed to help you build skills, not therapy or medical care. If you are in crisis or experiencing thoughts of harming yourself or others, please seek immediate support. In the U.S., you can call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

Today we’re not trying to eliminate discomfort.

We’re learning how to support ourselves through it.
