Day 5: Approaching Instead of Avoiding
Exposure Therapy
Today is where things shift from understanding… to practice. Anxiety grows in avoidance. It softens in approach.
Day 5 introduces exposure — not as something extreme or overwhelming, but as a structured way of teaching your brain something new.
Avoidance feels protective in the short term. It lowers distress. It creates relief. But it also quietly teaches your nervous system that the threat was real and too dangerous to face. Exposure does the opposite.
Today you’ll learn:
- How exposure actually works • Why the “false alarm” keeps firing
- How to begin building your own exposure plan
- The difference between primary and secondary avoidance
You are not trying to eliminate fear. You are teaching your brain that you can handle it.
Watch the video first. Then work through the workbook slowly and intentionally. Start small. Choose something manageable. This is about willingness, not intensity. You do not need to feel brave before you begin. You build bravery by beginning.
As always, this program is psychoeducational and not therapy or medical care. If you are in crisis or experiencing thoughts of harming yourself or others, please seek immediate support. In the U.S., call or text 988.
You are not shrinking anymore.
You are expanding your world — one step at a time.
