Day 3: Understanding Your “Why”
Today we’re going to look at something that trauma can quietly pull you away from over time.
What matters to you.
After trauma, your life can start to organize around safety. What to avoid, what might go wrong, and how to stay in control can begin to take priority. While this makes sense, it can also create distance from the people, experiences, and parts of yourself that feel meaningful.
And over time, your world can become smaller.
On Day 3, we’re introducing an important shift: moving toward what matters, even when fear is present.
This doesn’t mean waiting until you feel ready or completely safe. It means beginning to identify your values—the kind of person you want to be and the life you want to build—and using them as a guide for your choices.
Inside today’s lesson you’ll find:
- One short educational video
- A fillable workbook PDF
- Reflection prompts to help you identify your values and your why
Start with the video, then move through the workbook at your own pace. Today is about reconnecting with what matters and noticing how fear may have been pulling you away from it.
You’re not expected to change everything today. Awareness and small steps are enough.
Remember: this challenge is a psycho-educational program designed to help you build skills, not therapy or medical care. If you are in crisis or experiencing thoughts of harming yourself or others, please seek immediate support. In the U.S., you can call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
Today we’re not trying to get rid of fear.
We’re beginning to build a life that is guided by something bigger than it.
