Day 2: Core Beliefs & Thinking Errors

Today we begin with something important.

The way you think after trauma is not random. Your brain has been trying to make sense of what happened and protect you from it happening again. What often keeps distress going is not just the memory itself — it’s the beliefs and thinking patterns your brain formed around it.

On Day 2, we’ll look at core beliefs and thinking errors. You’ll learn how trauma can shape what you believe about yourself, others, and the world, why certain thoughts feel so certain and convincing, and how these patterns reinforce the fear system you learned about on Day 1.

When you understand these patterns, something begins to shift. Instead of automatically believing every thought, you start to notice how your mind is interpreting what’s happening.

Inside today’s lesson you’ll find:

  • One short educational video
  • A fillable workbook PDF
  • Reflection prompts to help you identify your beliefs and thinking patterns

Start with the video, then move through the workbook at your own pace. There’s nothing you need to do perfectly today. Day 2 is about awareness and beginning to question what your mind tells you.

Remember: this challenge is a psycho-educational program designed to help you build skills, not therapy or medical care. If you are in crisis or experiencing thoughts of harming yourself or others, please seek immediate support. In the U.S., you can call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

Today we’re not trying to replace your thoughts.

We’re simply learning how they form and why they feel so true.
