Day 1 - Understanding Your Fear System
Today we begin with something important.
Intrusive thoughts are not a sign that something is wrong with you. They are a normal part of how the human brain works. What turns those thoughts into OCD is not the thought itself — it’s the alarm system that reacts to it.
On Day 1, we’ll look at how OCD interacts with your brain’s fear system. You’ll learn why intrusive thoughts can feel so convincing, why your mind pushes you to solve or neutralize them, and how the OCD cycle keeps the alarm switched on.
When you understand the system, something begins to shift. Instead of fighting your mind, you start to see the pattern.
Inside today’s lesson you’ll find:
• One short educational video
• A fillable workbook PDF
• Reflection prompts to help you notice how OCD shows up for you
Start with the video, then move through the workbook at your own pace. There’s nothing you need to do perfectly today. Day 1 is simply about awareness.
Remember: this challenge is a psycho-educational program designed to help you build skills, not therapy or medical care. If you are in crisis or experiencing thoughts of harming yourself or others, please seek immediate support. In the U.S., you can call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
Today we’re not trying to eliminate intrusive thoughts.
We’re simply learning why they happen and why they feel so powerful.
